Maybe begging and being just plain pathetic would evoke sympathy from other bloggers and get them to comment. Since I'm just a novice blogger, I have no idea what it would take to get an audience, especially one that responds. Unless you attract a unique niche of people with the same interests, or appeal to the baser aspects of life (Britney gossip included), I would think it would be supremely difficult to overcome reader inertia and comment.

I'll write to you! :)
Good thoughts about motivating people to comment. I'm up at the WLA conference, and today Lee Rainie from the Pew Internet & American Life project mentioned that most bloggers are writing for a very small audience - not the whole world, just 4 or 5 friends. So I thought that was interesting. Not every blog will be Instapundit (thank goodness!)
Dear Leereer,
I like what you have to say. And your pictures of pretty birdies. Keep up the good work.
Somebody out there is reading my Blog! Thanks for your support and comments!
Count me as one of the inert interactors. So many times by the time I've read something the discussion has long since finished - case in point this discussion happened last week.
When I do post something I feel like my post is met with a great silence - probably because the discussion has passed by.
